Krystal spikes menu with new Maple Bourbon Shake
Chef serves up series of ‘playfully Southern’ flavors at South’s original quick-service restaurant
ATLANTA — October 23, 2018 — The Krystal Company is unveiling a new Southern-inspired flavor, in keeping with its roots as the South’s original quick-service restaurant (QSR). Krystal’s new maple bourbon handspun milkshake is made with real milk and soft-serve ice cream. This limited-time menu item is part of an ongoing strategy to celebrate Krystal’s heritage across its 11-state Southeastern footprint with innovation focused on “playfully Southern” recipes.
“The maple bourbon sauce uses pure, grade A maple syrup sourced from both the United States and Canada,” said Brandon Freeman, Krystal’s senior manager for culinary innovation. “I’d describe the flavors of bourbon as caramel, oak, charred oak, toffee and vanilla.”
While 80 percent of Krystal’s non-breakfast orders include Krystal burgers, limited time offers freshen the flavor profile that attracts customers and ensures relevance for the brand, according to Paul Macaluso, Krystal CEO. LTOs increase average transaction totals by as much as 40 percent.
“We know that our guests crave new and vibrant flavors and have come to expect our menu innovation to be playfully Southern,” Macaluso said. “Our new Maple Bourbon Shake over-delivers on that expectation and is absolutely delicious!”
Krystal’s Maple Bourbon Shake does not contain alcohol, just the flavor of bourbon.
Krystal introduced Pimento Cheese Bites and Frozen Lemonhead Slushies made with real Lemonhead candies in June as part of its limited-time summer menu which ended in August. Previous noteworthy Southern menu items include a Country-Fried Steak Krystal, Tabasco Krystal, Lemon Ice Box Pie Shake and Banana Pudding Shake. Available October 29, Maple Bourbon Shakes are the newest iteration of Krystal’s Southern-themed seasonal food strategy.
