October 16, 2013:  As a way to mark Krystal’s 81st anniversary and first as official corporate citizens in Georgia, Krystal President and CEO Doug Pendergast was joined by Atlanta Market Leader John Watkins for a photograph with Governor Nathan Deal to promote next week’s upcoming celebration.  State Senator and official Krystal Lover Jeff Mullis joined the group for an official presentation to Krystal on behalf of the State of Georgia.

Governor Deal has proclaimed October 24th as ‘Krystal Day’ throughout the state of Georgia.  This is a huge honor for the brand and a very special way to mark the company’s new home in Georgia.

The Proclamation reads:

“WHEREAS:            In 1932, entrepreneurs Rody Davenport, Jr. and J. Glenn Shrill founded the Krystal restaurant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Amid the difficult financial times of the Great Depression, these keen minded men believed that people would still patronize “a restaurant that was kept spotlessly clean, privded courteous service, and offered a good meal at the lowest possible price,” and,

WHEREAS:  The Krystal restaurant was a monumental success, expanding to become one of the most recognized franchises in the Southern region of the United States.  It is one of the oldest hamburger chains in the country and the oldest in the South; and,

WHEREAS:  This well-loved franchise has remained an innovator, both in terms of its menu selection and its business operation.  Offering a variety of items to choose from, the Krystal restaurant was one of the first to offer “to go” options; and,

WHEREAS:  Maintaining an eye toward the future, Krystal furthered its convenient service to customers by offering free Wi-Fi internet access.  In 2005, the Krystal franchise became the largest provider of free Wi-Fi of any fast food chain in the nation; and,

WHEREAS:  With a one-of-a-kind taste and decades of serving communities across the Southern region, Krystal is an icon.  The people of Georgia are happy to welcome this company’s headquarters as it makes Atlanta home; now.

THEREFORE:  I, NATHAN DEAL, Governor of the State of Georgia, do hereby proclaim October 24, 2013 as Krystal Day in Georgia.

In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Executive Department to be affixed this 1st day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand thirteen.”

The proclamation is a great way to honor the brand’s rich heritage as well as look forward to a very bright future.  This honor is one that can be shared equally by our team, our board, and most importantly, Krystal Lovers who’ve been our inspiration for the last 81 years!

Let’s Krystal!
