KRYSTAL ANNOUNCES MUSEUM AND UTC ENDOWMENT ON ICONIC BRAND’S ANNIVERSARY
Atlanta, GA- - - Krystal President and CEO Doug Pendergast made some exciting announcements today regarding the brand’s continued commitment to their hometown of Chattanooga.
With Krystal’s humble beginnings by entrepreneurs Rody Davenport and J. Glenn Sherrill, Pendergast returned to Chattanooga to announce the ‘Krystal Scholarship’ that will be given annually to a student in the College of Business at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The endowment will provide a perpetual relationship with the University and be used to encourage young business students as they continue their studies.
Pendergast also announced that The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will be the home for The Krystal Museum Collection which will be located at the College of Business. Additional significant historical memorabilia from the company will go on permanent display and rotation at the University’s Library and will be archived to encourage study of one of Chattanooga’s most successful brands.
“Our founders were entrepreneurs who started their restaurant in the midst of the Great Depression,” said Pendergast. “We believe it is important to honor their spirit of determination by supporting students who are beginning their own journey. Supporting the College of Business at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is a real honor for us and we are very pleased to endow this scholarship.”
UTC Chancellor Steve Angle said, “We are very grateful for our partnership with Krystal. The company's generous donation will support our commitment to student success and strengthens our ties to the Chattanooga community."
His announcements coincide with the 81st anniversary of the iconic brand. Later in the evening, the celebration will continue as the company offers Krystals for just a quarter and Cheese Krystals for thirty cents from 7 pm until 11 pm. Guests will be asked to limit orders to six.
“This is a momentous day for the Krystal brand,” said Pendergast “And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be spending it in the special city that gave us our start.”
