Since our first restaurant opened, Krystal has always held a special place in its heart for military members and their families. It’s our troops who helped to establish, and continue to protect, the American way of life we all hold so dear. So Krystal is proud and excited to announce a partnership with the National Military Family Association’s Operation Purple™ camps that will help military families across the Southeast. Operation Purple camps operate throughout the country and support the unique needs of military families. These camps provide a much-needed, week-long break for children whose parents are deployed with the U.S. Military. Due to a lack of funding, many Operation Purple camps have closed in recent years. Krystal’s support will allow them to reopen many of these camps throughout the Southeast, putting valuable services and experiences back within reach of military families in the region we call home.
The Krystal Crave Cruiser headed to Gulfport, MS to support first responders as they began clean up efforts from Hurricane Isaac. The mobile restaurant served almost 6,000 Krystal hamburgers, 2,000 Krystal Chicks, and 300 bottles of water to those working in the area. More than 800 of the sandwiches were delivered to first responders who could not stop by the Krystal Crave Cruiser location at the Gulfport Police station.
Doug Pendergast, President and CEO of The Krystal Corporation said, “Krystal has enjoyed being a part of communities throughout the southeast for the last 80 years. We believe it’s important for us to do our part to support those who are doing so much to help our customers. We appreciate all they are doing and hope our efforts will help.”
Krystal was in the Gulfport area for the weekend to feed responders during the initial clean up efforts of the area.
Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said, “Once again, Krystal demonstrates its corporate philosophy of giving back to communities and responding to the needs of its customers. I am proud that Krystal is a Southern-born product that has been successful throughout the Southeast. Thank you to Krystal and all their associates for practicing such high corporate standards of kindness and concern for those in need.”
The Krystal Company dispatched the Krystal Cruiser to Mobile to open up shop during the initial phase of clean up efforts after December’s tornadoes.
“While our store has been damaged, we hope to be able to open up soon,” said Brian Blosser, Vice President of Development and Construction. “However, we know that many will be without power and that as clean up continues, a hot meal is something everyone can appreciate.”
The Cruiser was on site as clean up continued, offering a limited menu of Krystal burgers, chiks, water and Coca-Cola products. It then travelled throughout the area, providing relief at various locations.
“Krystal is committed to every community that has been so supportive of us over our 80 year history,” said Blosser.
